Happy New Year!!
Hey everybody! Wow, I can’t believe it’s New Year’s Eve. This year has gone by so fast. Sometimes it feels like it should still be the middle of summer instead of the end of the decade and the start of a new one.
Looking back on this decade, a lot has happened in my journey as an author. It started off by me finishing my first manuscript. The next several months and years consisted of editing and querying agents. After several years with no luck, I had come to the conclusion that becoming a published author was just not in the cards for me.
Then in the spring of 2018, things started to change for me. Learning about independent publishers/small press publishers was insightful and reignited the hope in me I had lost over the years. So after getting in touch with a professional editor and making some much needed changes, including splitting my manuscript into two books, I once again sent out my work hoping for the best. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, it didn’t work out. I felt like I was back at square one and I had a decision to make.
After taking several weeks to think and do some soul-searching, I decided to self-publish my books. Over the next several months, I spent almost every waking moment getting both ready for their releases in October and December. October felt like it came in a blink and I was nervous. Then before I knew it, it was December and time to release the next book. Now that both books are out, I can breathe the tiniest bit easier and focus on what’s next.
I’ve never really put much thought or stock into resolutions, but as a new decade begins, I plan to continue making progress as an author. It seems like I’m learning something new every day from other authors and I’m grateful. I plan on finishing the novella I’m currently working on. While I hope to release it by this time next year, I’m not putting pressure on myself and just taking it one day at a time.
Lastly, tomorrow (New Year’s Day) is the last day of my “After Christmas” sale.
So, as we say goodbye to 2019, I’m wishing you a safe and Happy New Year and a great 2020!!
